Team

Alastair Shanks – The Ideas man

Alastair came up with the idea of crossing the Channel in  a pedalo while searching for some sort of adventure to raise money for the Ipswich Special Care Baby Unit. He has a passion for skiing and sailing, as well as strenuous mountain bikes, long, hilly walks and good food.

Rupert Shanks – The horsepower

Rupert works in online communication for shipping and logistics company, NYK. Like his brother, he also has the skiing and sailing bug. Rup is a keen cyclist and recently completed the London to Paris ride in aid of charity. We’re hoping his leg power will take us to France again this year!

Nigel Eaves – Chief Engineer

A self-confessed workaholic, who is the third generation to run the long established family business, L.S. Eaves Ltd, based in Stoke by Nayland.

Nigel has a passion for adventure travel and is an experienced scuba diver and swimmer, which might come in handy for the expedition ahead! He is currently reviving his old love of motocross in his (little) spare time.

Kate Shanks – Chief Land Officer

Kate is currently on maternity leave (again) from her role as Client Services Director at Peter Lockyer Advertising. Like her husband Alastair, Kate is also a keen sailor and skier as well as enjoying good food and fine wine, plus a spot of riding and walking too! She’s a passionate mum and is currently awaiting the arrival of daughter no.2 – due on 21 Jan.

Virginia Eaves – Events Manager

Outgoing and fun loving, Spanish born Virginia, will keep spirits up and the team in tow.
Virginia shares her husband Nigel’s love for travel and adventure and she is also a keen scuba diver.

Virginia works alongside Nigel at the family business, making sure things run smoothly (you will mostly find her hiding behind tons of paperwork).

  1. Gavin & Pippa Shanks

An extremely worthy cause & one we’ll be glad to support. The team comprises 2 Yachtmasters & an experienced engineer so a pedalo should be a ‘walk-over’!

Great website! Just hope my brothers’ hairy legs have enough muscle power for the task!

  7. Good luck guys, what a very worthwhile cause!
Glad to see that Nigel’s picture is not the one where he went “full frontal” in the Namibian desert, as it might have attracted the wrong kind of publicity.

    • Virginia Eaves

Thanks Isabelle! I am saving that picture to sell at a forthcoming auction. I am sure it will raise a decent amount of money!

  8. You’re looking good to go guys – very proud of each of you.
    Love Andy
