We are doing this in aid of the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) at Ipswich Hospital.
Kate (Alastair’s wife) gave birth to Chloe Molly Shanks in July 2008. Unfortunately the birth did not go as smoothly as we all would have liked. After a crash cesarean-section, Chloe ended up in the SCBU for a week, having been resuscitated and sedated at birth. See the gallery below of Chloe’s first few days.
The SCBU truly is an amazing place with fantastic nurses working around the clock, looking after some very vulnerable babies. They do, of course, receive government funding however this is not enough for all the special equipment they need.
A very exciting venture raising money for such a worthy cause. If there is anything this OAP can do to help, do please let me know – publicity and raising the odd bob or two being the obvious starter. Great to have a big hand in helping another Chloe.
Thank you Mary! Any promotion in your neck of the woods would be much appreciated!
Only just seen tghis. Will shortly send result of one-man brainstorm by email – lots of rubbish, but there might be something useful there.
Hi Dick, any ideas or support would be much appreciated so please send whatever you can.
This is such a fantastic idea (if slightly mad!) but no question of our support. The same SCBU looked after James for a week after James was born so very close to our hearts too and we’re thrilled to support them.
Hi Paul and Sophie,
Thank you for the lovely comment and commitment to support us, its much appreciated. It would be great to get in touch and hear more of James’ story which we can share to help promote the Special Care Baby Unit further. We may drop you an email if you dont mind. Thanks again.
Of course, please do drop me an email whenever. Do you have my address via this site? If not, then Kate has it… Sophie
You guys out East are amazing
Pedalling the Channel – no fazing
You’ll get those legs pumping
And your big hearts a-thumping
While we on dry land will be lazing!
